  1. Fill the blender jug halfway with warm water.
  2. Add a drop of dishwashing liquid.
  3. Add a coarsely chopped lemon and blitz it for about a minute.
  4. Discard the lemon puree and give it a good rinse then flip the jar upside down onto a clean tablecloth and leave it to air dry.

It takes so little effort and just like magic your blender should be sparkling clean again – not to mention the lovely lingering smell of lemons in your kitchen.

  1. Fill your blender jar about halfway with hot water from a recently boiled kettle or straight from the tap (As a safety precaution never fill the jar more than half full).
  2. Add just a drop of dish soap. You can also add in some lemon or vinegar as well at this point, but it really isn’t necessary
  3. Put the blender jar back on to the base, remove your blender lid's centre insert and hold the lid down with a towel. (Do this to avoid it exploding on you)
  4. Turn on the blender and let it run for about 10 seconds. Use a slower speed if that’s possible because you are dealing with hot liquids.
  5. Pour out the hot water and rinse out the blender jar thoroughly with more hot water. You should have a perfectly clean blender with nothing left to be scrubbed out.

These might be the two quickest and easy methods when it comes to cleaning a blender, but you will still need to do the occasional deep clean.

  1. Start by unscrewing the blender blades from the jug.
  2. Take out the rubber gasket.
  3. Wash the jug thoroughly with dish soap and water. But for really dirty jugs you might need to soak them in hot water with some baking soda and vinegar.
  4. Use a sponge and clean carefully between the blades, paying attention to space under the blades where gunk tend to build up. A small dishwashing brush might just do the trick. Soaking the blades in hot water before washing them also helps to dislodge build-up.
  5. Wash the rubber gasket.
  6. Lay all the separate parts with the blender jug upside down on a clean tablecloth and let everything air dry.
  7. Lubricate the rubber gasket with a tiny bit of olive oil and q-tip so that it remains flexible.

Deep cleaning might seem like a lot of work but it ensures proper hygiene when it comes to your kitchen gadgets.

A good tip is to clean or soak your blender right away after using it. Do not leave all the gunk to dry out overnight or it will be a nightmare to clean under all those blades.

Think of it as a trade-off. If you diligently express clean your blender with either one of the quick methods above, you won't need to do a deep clean quite so often.
