Lemon Juice – Spray entrances with pure lemon juice. This works because just like vinegar, lemon juice also destroys the scent trails that ants follow.

Cinnamon – Both ground cinnamon and cinnamon essential oils work wonders too, although ground cinnamon will require more effort to clean up. How to get rid of Asian pests like ants with cinnamon? Just spray cinnamon essential oil all around the doors, windowsills and floors to keep them at bay.

Start with 60 ml of water and 60 ml of vodka. The vodka helps keep the solution mixed together but is not compulsory. If you don’t have any vodka on hand, you can always substitute with another 60 ml water and add 20-25 drops of cinnamon oil. Shake well before using.

Peppermint – Do the same as above and use only 15 drops of essential oils instead. Besides, your house would smell great after.

While maintaining general cleanliness helps, hot seasons tend to bring on even more flies. It would be a waste of time keep waiting for the next fly to swat, so instead hang up a flypaper or try out these DIY fly traps:

Put some apple cider vinegar in a bottle or jar and cover the opening with plastic wrap. Secure plastic wrap with a rubber band. Create a small hole in the plastic wrap so that fruit flies can smell the vinegar and crawl in. Don’t make the holes too big or the flies would be able to escape. Trapped flies will eventually drown in the vinegar.
Use a shallow dish bowl and fill it with an inch of apple cider vinegar and a tablespoon of sugar. Add some fruit scented dish soap and leave the dish uncovered outside to lure them out from your house.

Use catnip – Sprinkle catnip powder putting the focus on areas that are prone to stinkbug infestation. Catnip is a herbal plant that repels stinkbugs rather than killing them. Alternatively, you can always plant one instead of buying if you’re considering a long-term defence against this pest.

Use Mint – Mix 500 ml of water with 10 drops of mint essential oil in a spray bottle. Spray this solution on areas where they like to lurk and this serves as a repellent. 2 tsp of fresh ground mint leaves to the same amount of water can also be used in replacement of the essential oils.

Easily one of the most hated and hard to contain pests around are cockroaches. Especially, when you learn first hand that these pesky critters actually fly. How to get rid of Asian pests, specifically roaches prove to be extremely challenging. Depending on species, they can lay up to 50 eggs at a time. While you try to get rid of the babies, one of them would have gone and laid another 50 more.

First check for any leaks, because cockroaches love moisture. They can also breathe in water for 40 minutes, and if fully submerged, they can live for 30 minutes. So, if you think flushing the babies down the sink would solve the problem think again. Here are some suggestions for how you can effectively kill or repel these nasty critters.

With baking soda – Mix equal parts baking soda with equal parts sugar and sprinkle them in the areas where you’ve seen the cockroaches hiding. Leave this bait out and repeat until you are sure you have killed every single one of them. Baking soda is non-toxic and when ingested will mix with the roach’s stomach acid, causing it to die over time.

With bay leaves or lemon juice – These two options do not kill cockroaches but only repels them. Crush a handful of dried bay leaves in a pestle and mortar and sprinkle the powder on affected areas. Alternatively, you can also use concentrated lemon juice or lemon peels which can serve as double duty in keeping your home smelling nice.
