Does your workspace help you keep a creative mind? Are your kitchen drawers thoroughly organised? Is your bedroom clutter-free? If you answered 'no' to the questions above, this Konmari method checklist will be your best friend!

The Konmari method is Marie Kondo’s globally acknowledged way of organizing wherein one’s belongings are gathered, one category at a time while guaranteeing that only items that spark joy are kept, everything else is discarded. 4 Konmari principles for your Home

1. Decide what you want from your workspace.

A spacious kitchen, a relaxing bedroom, a cozy living room. Visualize your goal. As a decluttering guru, Kondo says that “tidiness is a way of everyday living”, so start with your mind, commit towards your goal, make a bold move and change your home’s aura!

2. Divide your items into groups.

You can categorize them by stuff for work, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom essentials, garage, garden, kid’s toys etc. Know which things you actually use and which ones you can live without. Choose which ones you can donate or sell. Turn your clutter into extra cash! Besides, your unused items can be someone’s treasure and be put to good use.

3. Decide what sparks joy!

Tokimeku, the Japanese word which means “flutter, throb or palpitate”, is one of the inspirational ideas of Marie Kondo. Hold the item and ask yourself these questions to help in decision making: Am I going to use this? Is it important to me? Do I feel happy when I see this?

It is either yes or no, maybe  is still a  no.

Feel it. If you have joy and satisfaction in your heart upon having this object, by all means, keep it. Learn to let go of the things that don’t add to positivity. This is one of the most important steps within the Konmari method checklist.

4. Put items back in order.

Assign a home for everything within your home. The key here is to make everything available, accessible and open. This means storing your things in a way where you can easily see them at a glance, giving them space to breathe and even acknowledging their purpose in your life by mentally saying “thank you” every after use or when you are discarding them. Respect your possessions.

2. Think hooks, bins, and baskets. Use these for your cosmetics, keys, umbrellas, coats, spoons, and so on.

3. Save photos of memorable items instead of the actual items. Keep a soft copy!

4. Use a magnetic strip for your metal kitchen tools or small accessories. Store your metal knives, spatulas, scissors, pins, and clips on your wall not in a drawer.
