Instagram's most-liked post ever is a picture of an egg
Once, Twitter's most retweeted post was about chicken nuggets. Now, the most-liked Instagram post is a picture of an egg.
Step aside, Kylie Jenner, a new most-liked Instagram post has risen.
On Sunday 12 January, a photo of an egg—yes, an egg—beat out Kylie Jenner’s birth announcement as the most-liked post on the social media platform.
The photo was posted on 5 January and was captioned: “Let’s set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram. Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million)! We got this 🙌#LikeTheEgg #EggSoldiers #EggGang.”
The post has since garnered over 24 million likes and still growing.
Most-liked Instagram post
Meanwhile, Kylie Jenner’s post, which is now Instagram’s second most-liked post, has been flooded with egg-related comments with the egg’s supporters commenting with an egg emoji or simply the word “Egg” on the said post.
In response, the lip kit magnate posted a video where she can be seen cracking a similar-looking egg on the pavement, and captioned it with “Take that little egg.”
All for food
This isn’t the first time a food-related post took the throne with the most engagement on social media. In 2017, 16-year-old American Carter Wilkerson set a Twitter record for retweets — beating Ellen DeGeneres’ famous Oscars selfie — when he sent a tweet to Wendy’s asking for free nuggets for a year. Though since dethroned, Wilkerson ended up receiving chicken nuggets from the fast-food chain after getting his post retweeted over 3 million times.
